Diving Into Digital Twins for the New Emerging Technologies Series
The National Institute of Building Sciences recently was honored with a Power of Associations Silver Award by the American Society of Association Executives for its National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) reauthorization briefing.
In March, NIBS and industry partners hosted a Congressional briefing at the Rayburn House Office Building to speak with representatives and make an appeal for reauthorization of the NEHRP and National Windstorm Impact Reduction Program (NWIRP). Both program reauthorizations expired in September 2023 and 2018, respectively.
NEHRP has protected the nation for the past 40 years. High seismic regions affect almost half of all Americans and national building assets of $108 trillion. NEHRP activities involve national experts to advance seismic safety from education and research to warning systems, hazard maps and building codes.
Our briefing requested that Congress reauthorize NEHRP and NWIRP with increased funding to the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Federal Emergency Management Agency for critical activities like functional recovery, existing building retrofit design, and lifeline infrastructure standards.
The ASAE Power of Advocacy Award recognizes associations that have addressed advocacy through the promotion of civil discourse and collaboration between government and the private sector; mobilization of members and volunteers in grassroots advocacy with demonstrable results; and organizing coalitions to address a shared federal, state or local legislative or regulatory issue.
