New Built Environment Workforce Report: 63% Say It’s Important to Increase Diversity

The new report, which was completed in partnership with Avenue M Group, takes the pulse on where things stand, with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion. It covers more ground, including a breakdown of the definition of diversity. More than seven in 10 respondents included race (75%), ethnicity (74%), gender (73%), and age (71%) in their definition of diversity within the context of the built environment.

Our Golden Anniversary: NIBS Turns 50 in 2024

2024 is a big year for the National Institute of Building Sciences.

NIBS officially was established in August 1974, by the U.S. Congress in the Housing and Community Development Act, Public Law 93-383. At that time, Congress recognized the need for an organization to serve as an authoritative source supporting government and private sector building science research, code/standards development, and innovative technology integration.

We’re celebrating at NIBS HQ in Washington.

The National Institute of Building Sciences took home a Bronze Stevie Award in the Organization of the Year - Non-Profit or Government Organizations-Small category.

Stevie Awards recently announced the winners in 20th Annual International Business Awards.

Winners were selected from more than 3,700 nominations submitted by organizations in 61 nations.

Recognizing a Lifetime of Work in the Building Industry

Each year, NIBS honors a building industry icon with the Mortimer M. Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award. Established in 2011 and named after the first member of NIBS, this award is given to an association, corporation, or individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of dedication to the mission and goals of NIBS. It is NIBS’ highest honor and award.

During Building Innovation 2022, the Mortimer M. Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Philip Schneider, retired.
