Dr. Jiqiu (JQ) Yuan, P.E., PMP, is a professional engineer with more than 20 years of research and development experience. He specializes in making infrastructure and communities resilient against natural disasters. Dr. Yuan actively is involved in the development of guidelines, codes, standards, polices, and applied research programs in a variety of building science fields. As the Vice President of Engineering with the National Institute of Building Sciences, he leads initiatives that support interdisciplinary and inter-organizational collaboration, promotes innovative solutions in the built environment, and provides strategic leadership in emerging areas. Dr. Yuan is the staff lead of the Building Seismic Safety Council, Multi-Hazard Mitigation Council, and Committee on Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate. In 2022, Dr. Yuan was appointed by FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell to serve on the National Advisory Council. Formerly, Dr. Yuan was a researcher with the Federal Highway Administration Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center. He also served as an adjunct professor at George Mason University and George Washington University.
