John (JC) Hudgison is a native of Columbus, Georgia. He advanced his education by attending and graduating from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Architecture & Design (B. Arch), and is scheduled to attain a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from Troy University in 2024. JC is currently the Construction Services Center Manager and Chief Building Official for the City of Tampa, FL. Prior to working for the City of Tampa, John worked for the Columbus Consolidated Government in Columbus GA and John I Rivers Associates as an Architecture Intern.
JC has more than 17 years of experience in the fields of architecture, construction management and building code enforcement. In the ten years of service to the Columbus Consolidated Government, he was Project Manager for numerous capital improvement projects including new public buildings, streetscape improvements, and a wide range of renovation and rehab projects at various scale. JC also served as Director of Building Inspections and Code Enforcement where he directed the plan review and inspections program relative to the construction as well as Property Maintenance and Code Enforcement Divisions for the City of Columbus.
JC is proficient in the built environment where he has received his Certified Building Official (CBO) certification from the International Code Council (ICC), and Building Code Administrator through the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) and is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In his enthusiasm to improve building safety and economic investment in the community, JC previously served on the Building Officials Association of Georgia (BOAG) Board, Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) 2018 International Building Code Task Force, and the AIA Georgia Board.
In his current commitment to building safety, resilience and design, JC is the Chair of the ICC Emerging Leaders Membership Council (ELMC), on the Building Officials Association of Florida (BOAF) Legislative and Code Development Committees and Chair of the ICC IECC Residential Energy Code Consensus Committee. This committee is responsible for the next version of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) that comes out in 2024. JC was recognized by his alma mater, University Tennessee-Knoxville as a Volunteer 40 under 40. The Volunteer 40 Under 40 recognizes forty alumni under the age of 40 who have excelled personally and professionally since completing their degree at UT Knoxville.
