Boston Building Enclosure Council Announces Call for Abstracts for 2021 Symposium on Building

The symposium takes place September 23. Abstracts are due April 16.

This will be the second symposium in honor of the memory of Wagdy Anis, an internationally recognized architect who specialized in building enclosure performance. B-BEC is a chapter under the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council.

BEST5 Technical Committee Issues Call for Abstracts

The National Institute of Building Sciences Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) and the Building Enclosure Council – Philadelphia are seeking abstracts for papers for presentation at the fifth BEST Conference Building Enclosure Science and Technology™ (BEST5), to be held April 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The BEST5 Technical Committee will select approximately 60 abstracts related to building science research, design or practice for conference papers and presentations, panel presentations and poster presentations. Presenters have until June 15, 2017, to submit an abstract.

Attend Building Innovation 2019; Stay for the BECx Workshop

Building Innovation 2019: The National Institute of Building Sciences Seventh Annual Conference and Expo, January 7-10, 2019, has a compelling schedule of educational sessions, including a number of building enclosure design presentations. Building enclosure professionals who attend the Conference will want to take part in the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) meeting Monday, the sessions on building enclosure design Tuesday and Wednesday, then stay for the building enclosure commissioning (BECx) Workshop Thursday, January 10, all at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C.

BETEC began developing a building enclosure commissioning (BECx) certification training program in 2015. Following three days of Conference events and education sessions, BETEC will host the latest two BECx Certificate Course Modules at the Thursday BECx Workshop. The new BECx Modules include the BECx Standards and Process Module and the BECx Lab Testing Module.

BETEC, BECs Explore ENGAGE Information Exchange, Building Science Education, Strengthening Local and National Communities

Representatives from the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) and its local component Building Enclosure Councils (BECs) assembled via Zoom for their annual meeting on September 21.  Under the leadership of BETEC President Stephen Shanks, the group explored the new NIBS communications platform, ENGAGE and exchanged ideas on how it could be useful for sharing speakers’ lists, important new research, and upcoming events, as well as for a networking platform.

NIBS Guideline 3-2012 Building Enclosure Commissioning Process BECx

GL03 describes a process that provides the flexibility for an owner to incorporate building enclosure commissioning into their project. The Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) process is utilized to validate that the performance of materials, components, assemblies, systems and design achieve the objectives and requirements of the owner as outlined in the contract documents.
