Institute Supports White House Effort to Advance Resilience and the Building Codes

The National Institute of Building Sciences is proud to support the White House in its efforts to advance the nation’s resilience through the application of codes and standards.

The White House convened the White House Conference on Resilient Building Codes today, May 10, 2016, to bring increased attention to the important role of codes and standards in achieving a resilient nation. The Institute served as a liaison between the White House and the building industry leading up to the event. Institute Presidential Advisor Ryan M. Colker, J.D., moderated a panel of codes and standards developers.

Next BSSC Webinar to Focus on 2015 NEHRP Design Examples

The third in a series of webinars sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that highlight the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program’s (NEHRP) 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for Buildings and Other Structures, this webinar will provide an overview of the NEHRP Recommended Provisions: Design Examples, which illustrate and explain the applications of the 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions; ASCE 7-16: Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures; and the material design standards referenced in both documents.

BSSC Webinar on 2015 NEHRP Design Examples, June 28

In less than two weeks, the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) will host a free webinar. The “2015 NEHRP Design Examples” webinar with take place Tuesday, June 28, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET.

August BSSC Webinar to Address Seismic Isolation Design

Seismic isolation is perhaps the most effective method available for protecting structures from earthquake damage. The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for Buildings and Other Structures contain updated requirements for the design and testing of seismic isolation systems and the design of isolated superstructures. The National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) will host a free webinar on the topic, “Seismic Isolation Design with the 2015 NEHRP Recommended Provisions,” Thursday, August 11, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET.

This is the fourth in a series of webinars sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that highlight the 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions.

One Week Away: BSSC Webinar to Address Seismic Isolation Design

There's still time to join us for the fourth in a series of webinars sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that highlight the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for Buildings and Other Structures.

The National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) will host a free webinar on the topic, “Seismic Isolation Design with the 2015 NEHRP Recommended Provisions,” Thursday, August 11, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET.

September BSSC Webinar to Address Response Spectrum Analysis and Linear Response History Analysis

The National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for Buildings and Other Structures, as well as American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) ASCE/SEI 7-16, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, contain updated requirements to both the Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA) method and Linear Response History (LRH) analysis method. Highlighting these updates, the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) will host a free webinar detailing “Response Spectrum Analysis/Linear Response History Analysis” on Wednesday, September 28, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm ET. Participants may earn one professional development hour (PDH).

BSSC Urges ICC Members to Support Seismic Safety When Voting on Code Changes

The National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC), developer of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) publication NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), urges governmental members of the International Code Council (ICC) to support code changes that advance seismic safety in the nation’s buildings.

BSSC Schedules 2017 Webinar Series on Construction Materials

The National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) will host, under the sponsorship of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), a new 2017 webinar series focused on construction materials addressed in the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) publications.

The webinars will be based on three documents produced by the BSSC and published by FEMA in the 2015 NEHRP Provisions cycle, including FEMA P-1050, 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures; FEMA P-1051, 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Design Examples; and FEMA P-1052, 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Training and Instructional Materials.

January 27 BSSC Seminar Will Look at Reinforced Concrete Structures

The first webinar in a new 2017 series hosted by the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) and sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will focus on the seismic design of reinforced concrete structures using the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP) 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for Buildings and Other Structures and its primary reference standards: ASCE/SEI 7-10: Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures and ACI 318-14: Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete.
