Only One Day Left to Submit an Abstract to Present at Building Innovation 2017

Time is running out for industry professionals to submit an abstract to present during Building Innovation 2017: The National Institute of Building Sciences Fifth Annual Conference and Expo, to be held January 9-12, 2017, at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C.

With the theme of Collaborating for a High-Performing Future, the Institute is reaching out to its council and committee members and inviting industry professionals to present during the four-day Conference. Industry leaders with valuable insights, case studies, best practices, lessons learned and/or remaining challenges are encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences with the broad audience of building industry stakeholders. Conference sessions will be delivered in four major tracks that relate to resilience and high-performance.

Engaging and Interactive Program Set for Building Innovation 2017 Conference

Following its first-ever call for abstracts for its Building Innovation Conference Series, the National Institute of Building Sciences has developed a program schedule to engage the entire building community and foster collaboration during Building Innovation 2017: The Institute’s Fifth Annual Conference and Expo, to be held January 9-12, 2017, at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington, D.C. 

This was the first time the Institute had issued an open call for presenters to Building Innovation and the response was higher than expected, with more than 150 abstracts received. After a review and selection process that included feedback from across the Institute’s program areas, the Building Innovation 2017 Planning Team came up with a schedule that supports the theme of the event—Collaborating for a High-Performance Future—and the goals of the Institute, while providing an exciting, balanced, interactive and educational event.

The Building Innovation 2017 Collaborative Program Delivers Sessions Worth 24 CEUs

Building Innovation 2017: The National Institute of Building Sciences Conference & Expo, to be held January 9-12, in Washington, D.C., is a great way to earn continuing education units (CEUs) while hearing from a diverse group of speakers. With the theme Collaborating for a High-Performing Future, Building Innovation 2017 takes a new path to delivering educational content to engage the entire building community, combining a variety of concepts and presenting diverse perspectives during each session to stimulate creative ideas, present new approaches and develop workable solutions for the entire building industry. Building Innovation 2017 sessions have received approval for a total of 24.5 Learning Units (LUs) from the American Institute of Architects, many of which are Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) hours.

“The Well-Tempered City” Author to Keynote Building Innovation 2017

The author and man who “repairs the fabric of cities,” Jonathan F.P. Rose, will serve as the Plenary Keynote Speaker during Building Innovation 2017: The National Institute of Building Sciences Fifth Annual Conference and Expo, to be held January 9-12, in Washington, D.C.

Building Innovation 2017, with its theme of “Collaborating for a High-Performing Future,” correlates well with Mr. Rose’s recently published book, The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations and Human Behavior Teach Us about the Future of Urban Life. The book covers many of the topics the Institute’s councils and committees have been addressing to achieve resilient, high-performance buildings and communities. Following his keynote on Wednesday, January 11 from 12:00 – 1:30 pm ET, Mr. Rose will be signing copies of his book, which will be available for purchase on site.

Volunteer and Save: Students Needed to Assist at Building Innovation 2017

Take part in a special session to help build the future workforce during Building Innovation 2017—the National Institute of Building Sciences Fifth Annual Conference & Expo. On Day 1 of the Conference, Monday, January 9, 2017, at 3:30 pm, attendees can participate in a presentation of the Institute’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Program and the Future Workforce Program to discover ways to inspire, engage, educate and employ the next generation of building industry professionals.

Across many sectors of the building industry, there is a rising concern over the decreasing availability of a skilled workforce. Addressing this concern will take an industry-wide approach. Building Innovation 2018 Opening Keynote to Highlight Ways to Sustain, Strengthen, Secure

The president of Thornton Tomasetti, Raymond P. Daddazio, EngScD, PE, will serve as the Opening Keynote Speaker during Building Innovation 2018: The National Institute of Building Sciences Sixth Annual Conference and Expo, to be held Tuesday, January 9, 8:00 am – 10:00 am ET, in Washington, D.C.

The Building Innovation 2018 theme is Sustain. Strengthen. Secure. In his presentation, Mr. Daddazio will build on that theme, focusing on resilience and how infrastructure plays a major role in securing our communities for the future. He will provide his insights; highlight case studies; share best practices, lessons learned and remaining challenges; as well as offer his thoughts on long-term planning, whole building design, sustainability and the interchange between buildings and supporting infrastructure from the engineering point of view.

Building Innovation 2018 Plenary Keynote to Explore U.S. Embassy in London

James Timberlake, FAIA, partner from KieranTimberlake, the architecture firm that designed the new U.S. Embassy in London, will serve as keynote speaker of the Plenary Luncheon, to be held 12:00 – 1:30 pm, Wednesday, January 10, during Building Innovation 2018: The National Institute of Building Sciences Sixth Annual Conference and Expo, in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Timberlake will discuss the concepts and integration required to design an embassy that reflects the core values of democracy—transparency, openness and equality—while providing a welcoming, secure, highly sustainable environment.
