This is a pre-release of the National BIM Standard – United States™ V4.

NIBS chose this NBIMS soft launch because of the hard work of industry professionals and volunteers to develop the standards. We wanted to make the actual standards content available to the public for immediate use and adoption.

This consensus-based approach to NBIMS has been several years in the making, with draft ballots, public comment and review, project committee comment and approval, final ballots, project committee voting, and planning committee certification.

It's important to note that there are related guidelines, templates, and tools that are far along in development for the standards. This additional content must go through committee review and approval before being included.

A fully launched product takes time. The committees, workgroups, and teams continue to work to develop this content.
