Architect of the Capitol

Honorable Stephen T. Ayers, FAIA, LEED AP

The FEDCon® Breakfast will give private-sector architects, engineers, general and specialty contractors, and manufacturers insight into what one federal agency within the U.S. federal government—the Architect of the Capitol—has on its list of construction projects in 2016.

For more than two decades, FEDCon®—The Annual Market Outlook on Federal Construction, has provided a valuable forum for the federal agencies to present forecasting information to the building industry and to share the latest in processes and procedures along to the architectural/ engineering/ construction (AEC) community. Due to fiscal constraints put on federal agencies in recent years, the Institute has transitioned FEDCon® to provide attendees with an inside look from one agency’s perspective on current operations as well as any construction projects for the coming year.

During the 2016 event, hear from the Honorable Stephen T. Ayers, FAIA, LEED AP, Architect of the Capitol and Vice Chair of the National Institute of Building Sciences Board of Directors. Ayers will share his insights into the work currently underway to revitalize the U.S. Capitol and discuss how the various renovation projects will make the edifice more resilient and sustainable for future generations. The U.S. Capitol currently is undergoing significant renovation work, including restoration of the Capitol dome and rotunda interior; repairs to masonry walls of the Olmsted Terrace; and preservation of the Grant Memorial located in Union Square by the reflecting pool on the west side of the Capitol grounds. In addition, the Cannon House Office Building, the oldest Congressional office building, is undergoing a multi-year renewal project that includes a comprehensive systems upgrade.

Come to the FEDCon® Breakfast and get an inside look at the U.S. Capitol through the eyes of Architect of the Capitol himself, and hear what construction activities are on the agency’s agenda for the coming year.
