The National Institute of Building Sciences is rolling out a new periodical today to support its councils and programs. The Journal of the National Institute of Building Sciences (JNIBS) consolidates four pre-existing journals of the Institute: the Journal of Building Enclosure Design (JBED) and Journal of Building Information Modeling (JBIM), which were developed by the Institute’s buildingSMART alliance™ and Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC), respectively, and distributed bi-annually, and the Journal of Hazard Mitigation and Risk Assessment (JHAZ) and the Journal of Advanced and High-Performance Materials (JMAT), which were released as limited editions.

The new amalgamated periodical will allow the Institute to feature all of its existing journal topics, while expanding coverage to highlight a number of additional program areas, including such recently established groups as the Low Vision Design Committee and the National Council of Governments on Building Codes and Standards. In 2013, JNIBS will be published bimonthly in June, August, October and December.

A major benefit for readers will be the ability to subscribe to a print copy, an online copy or both. (Previous journals were only available online in a pdf format and to print subscribers in limited quantities.) Published by Stamats Commercial Buildings Group, the new JNIBS will be available as an interactive online digital periodical, with searchable content and links to advertisers, reference materials and bonus photos, and in print form.

In addition, advertisers will appreciate the new periodical because it combines the total readership of all of the Institute’s individual journals and allows product manufacturers to cross-pollinate to an audience of high-level, dedicated, technical experts committed to improving the built environment.
