SBIC SymposiumWithin the building industry, the concept of sustainability often leads to optimization of "green” attributes. However, to meet owner and occupant demands for buildings that meet their social, economic and environmental requirements, the industry must look Beyond Green™.

Industry professionals who attend the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) Symposium, to be held Thursday, January 10, 2013, as part of Building Innovation 2013—The National Institute of Building Sciences Annual Conference and Expo in Washington, D.C., can explore what social, economic and environmental sustainability means to various segments of the building industry and how an effective, holistic approach can move the industry Beyond Green™. With the theme Fostering Innovation to go Beyond Green™, the half-day Symposium, scheduled from 8:00 am to 11:45 am, will specifically address this important issue.

The SBIC Symposium will begin with an introduction to sustainability and ways to go Beyond Green™, followed by a panel discussion on integrating the challenges of a diverse industry. Participants will then have the opportunity to learn about real-world examples of sustainability directly from the winners of the 2012 Beyond Green™ High-Performance Building Awards. The award recipients will present their project case studies and share their experiences, highlighting the challenges and opportunities they faced while delivering high-performance buildings.

Following the Symposium, attendees may wish to attend the special Beyond Green™ Awards Luncheon sponsored by the Modular Building Institute and watch the 2012 Beyond Green™ High-Performance Building Awards winners receive their prizes.

The unique Beyond Green™ Awards program highlights those initiatives that shape, inform and catalyze the high-performance building market, while providing real-world examples of high-performance design and construction processes. The Beyond Green™ Awards recognize buildings, initiatives and products that best exemplify the eight design objectives of a high-performance building: sustainability, accessibility, aesthetics, cost-effectiveness, functionality, productivity, historical sensitivity, and safety and security. Categories include: Category A: High-Performance Buildings; Category B: High-Performance Initiatives; and Category C: High-Performance Products. Learn more about the Beyond Green™ Awards.
