INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR
INTEROPERABILITY OF NORTH AMERICA (IAI-NA):
Originally formed in 1995, the North American Chapter of IAI (IAI-NA) became a NIBS’ Council in 2002. IAI promotes the development and use of internationally developed building data model known as the IFC Model. The Industry Foundation Classes model allows the exchange of data among computer software platforms and applications, such as CAD, cost estimating, permitting, scheduling, O&M, and other functions to improve architecture, engineering, construction, facility management and related activities. The IFC Model is recognized by the International Standards Organization. IAI-NA is a membership-based organization for AEC+FM firms, software developers/vendors, product manufacturers, associations, government agencies and other building community organizations. IAI-NA is affiliated with the International Council of IAI, a body comprised of thirteen IAI chapters in Europe, Asia, and Australia. IAI-NA supports the U.S. General Services Administration’s initiative to produce design deliverables using standardized IFC-based building information models.
