buildingSMART Alliance:

In 2005, IAI fostered the establishment of buildingSMART. The buildingSMART initiative promotes the dynamic and seamless exchange of accurate, useful information on the built environment among all participants in the facility design, delivery, operation and management process throughout the lifecycle of a facility. buildingSMART is a branding term promoting an intelligent process for managing the project lifecycle through the effective transfer and use of facility related data and information among software applications commonly use for design, construction, procurement, maintenance and operations. The formation of a NIBS’ buildingSMART Alliance to foster coordination and cooperation among building process-related information technology standardization initiatives domestically and internationally is underway.
