Green, Hon. AIA.



“It’s a light house project, not just for certification, but for how high performance meets high design,” said Sam Hagerman, President of Hammer & Hand (left), upon accepting a Merit Award in the High-Performance Buildings Category for the Karuna House from President Green. “This house has been a great learning experience.”



“Every dollar you save in energy is equivalent to $59 in sales increases,” said Deane Evans (center), Executive Director of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Center for Building Knowledge, upon accepting, with Tom Land (right) of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a Merit Award in the Innovations for High-Performance Buildings & Communities Category for the Smart Supermarkets Program from President Green.



“The benchmark building that we used was one of the most efficient buildings structurally,” said Teresa M. Rainey, PE, LEED Fellow, BSCP, Director of High-Performance Design at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), upon accepting  a Merit Award in the Innovations for High-Performance Buildings & Communities Category for SOM’s Timber Tower research. “The embodied carbon footprint comparison was a 60 to 75% reduction in the Timber Tower as compared to the benchmark.”
