COBIE Implementation Testing: Onuma
Onuma Planning System (OPS) Direct Export to XML Spreadsheet

by E. William East, PhD, PE - Engineer Research and Development Center, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

During the March 2009 COBIE Challenge the Onuma Planning System (OPS) conducted two demonstrations. In the first demonstration OPS imported the floor and space list from a sample COBIE file. This import simulated the use of OPS for the purpose of architectural programming. Next, OPS was used to perform a variety of design tasks, such as spatial layout and equipment furniture placement, and an addition COBIE file was exported. As a side effect of conducting the spatial layout an IFC file containing the geometry of the building was also exported. OPS was used to capture construction installation information simulating the use of the OPS server. Finally, to simulate the delivery of the COBIE file to the owner at the completion of the project a COBIE file was exported. The initially imported file, the final resulting file, and the IFC file are provided through this page.

Onuma COBIE File via Direct Submission to COBIE Spreadsheet

Software Name Onuma Planning System (OPS)
Software Version 2009
Optional configuration(s) Information not provided by vendor.
Programming File ZIP 28 KB
Construction File ZIP 28 KB
IFC File ZIP 32 KB
Checker File Results PDF 60 KB
Qualitative Evaluation (on construction file)
Notes:
The error identified in the automated checker is that columns are not listed within spaces. This "error" in the automated checker is outside the scope of construction operations handover since columns are not typically tracked by maintenance and asset management software.
Qualitative Evaluations Conducted
Values provided for all required worksheets? Yes
Adequate detail provided for contacts? Yes
Spatial decomposition appears consistent (spaces have floor)? Yes
Spaces classified according to space function category Yes
System decomposition appears reasonable for building type? Yes
Systems classified according to functional capabilitiy category Yes
Types exported from the model are identified as "product data" Yes
Min of one of each type Yes
All components uniquely named Yes
Component to type ratio appears reasonable for building type? Test not conducted since submittal register contains information well beyond "Product Data" types.
All components in named spaces Yes
11-Document

OPS export of document information was inconsistent. If document worksheet information is provided as part of the COBIE export file, then the actual documents must also be provided or linked. Document references should not be included if documents are not provided. The consistency of this export should be validated prior to OPS export.
14-Installation Is there one installation record for every component?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Does each component ID actually refer to a valid component?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is the register type for the component identified?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Does the installation name match the component name?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is there a manufacturer for every installed component?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is there a model number for every installed component?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is there a serial number for every installed component?
No. There are several installed components that do not have serial numbers this information could have been provided prior to export.
16-Warranty Are all warranty records tied to appropriate register records?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is there a warranty record for every register "warranty type" record?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is a guarantor identified for each warranty?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is there a start and end date identified for each warranty?
Yes. However format for warranty data does display proper date format. DATE type. This should be fixed prior to next COBIE Challenge.
17-Spare Are all spare records tied to a valid register records?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
Is at least one supplier identified for each type of part?
Yes. Information directly loaded from test project spreadsheet.
