The buildingSMART alliance™ NBIMS-US™ Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the position of Chair of the National BIM Standard-United States™ (NBIMS-US™) Project Committee. This is a voluntary leadership position having oversight of the development of NBIMS-US™ Version 3.

This is a highly visible position within the buildingSMART alliance™ and thus the NBIMS-US™ Nominating Committee desires to identify a professional who is able to meet the position's responsibilities and duties as defined below.

Selection Process

The NBIMS-US™ Nominating Committee shall recommend a nominee for appointment by the Chair of the Board of the National Institute of Building Sciences in consultation with the President of the Institute.

Responsibilities and Duties

Chair of the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee

1) The position of Chair, NBIMS-US™ Project Committee is held for a term of two years

2) The Chair of the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee shall carry out the responsibilities and duties prescribed in the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee Rules of Governance

3) The Chair of the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee shall preside at all meetings of the NBIMS-US™ Planning Committee and the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee

a) NBIMS-US™ Planning Committee - Committee administering the business affairs, agenda and consensus process of the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee and overseeing the work of the NBIMS-US™ Subcommittees and Workgroups
b) NBIMS-US™ Project Committee - Committee designating or developing as well as managing Building Information Modeling (BIM)-related interoperability standards for the United States building industry

4) The nominee should have the following qualities:

a) Knowledge of and interest in the subject matter of the NBIMS-US
b) Strong leadership skills
c) Collaborative approach to decision making
d) Committed to an open standard BIM philosophy

5) Duties include:

a) Able to commit approximately a half-day a week to planning activities and meeting attendance
b) Can participate in buildingSMART alliance Executive Committee weekly meetings
c) Can participate and report at the buildingSMART alliance Board of Direction monthly meetings
d) Can travel to the National Institute of Building Sciences Annual meeting
e) Can potentially attend buildingSMART® International meetings

6) Membership requirement:

Member in good standing of the NBIMS-US™ Project Committee

The National Institute of Building Sciences,authorized by public law 93-383 in 1974, is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that brings together representatives of government, the professions, industry, labor and consumer interests to identify and resolve building process and facility performance problems. The Institute serves as an authoritative source of advice for both the private and public sectors with respect to the use of building science and technology.
