High-Performance Building Data Collection Initiative
High-Performance Building Data Collection Initiative
On May 2, 2011, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) announced that it would not be releasing the results of its 2007 Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey due to statistical errors. The week before, on April 28, EIA also reported that it would suspend work on its 2011 survey edition due to budget constraints.
In the wake of the troubling news from EIA, the National Institute of Building Sciences is establishing a High-Performance Building Data Collection Initiative to identify a path forward for collecting and disseminating data on all high-performance building attributes, not just energy use. Over the past several years, the building industry has increasingly expressed a need for additional building benchmark data on other high-performance building attributes, including safety and security, accessibility, cost effectiveness, water use and indoor environmental quality. This Initiative will allow the building community to still obtain the building energy data necessary to achieve national objectives for high-performance buildings and also gain additional data not currently captured through government sources.
Updates on the Initiative and related activities will be posted on this webpage.
