HAZUS Programs
Below is an overview of the Institute's current HAZUS programs.
Independent Verification and
Validation (IV&V)
The
Institute independently validates and verifies HAZUS-MH for FEMA. These efforts establish a baseline accuracy
for HAZUS-MH, maximize the quality and functionality, and reduce costs
associated with maintaining and enhancing HAZUS-MH. In conducting these efforts, the Institute
evaluates:
- HAZUS-MH methodology, software, and graphic user
interface development for the flood, earthquake, and hurricane models;
- HAZUS-MH’s auxiliary programs including the CDMS
(Comprehensive Data Management System), FIT (Flood Information Tool), and AEBM
(Advanced Engineering Building Module);
- Underlying supporting software (including ArcGIS,
Windows, and other Microsoft products); and
- HAZUS-MH technical and user manuals.
Section 508 Compliance
To enhance utilization of HAZUS-MH, the
Institute evaluates HAZUS-MH for compliance to Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This
evaluation includes identifying alternative non-software related procedures for
accessibility and ensuring that HAZUS-MH revisions do not reduce the level of
Section 508 compliance already established.
