Ryan Colker (center), Director of the Institute’s Consultative Council, addresses representatives from the Chinese Academy of Building Research, the Ministry of Housing and Urban and Rural Development, and the Chinese building community. The international group visited the Institute on November 14 to learn about building information modeling (BIM) activities underway in the United States—particularly by the Institute’s buildingSMART alliance™. Members of the delegation were particularly interested in the Industry Foundation Classes (IFCs), information exchanges [including the Construction Operations Building information exchange (COBie), Specifiers Properties information exchange (SPie) and Life Cycle information exchange (LCie)], and education and training.
