Get Educated on the Latest Seismic Design Practices

Stay up to date on the latest building practices in designing for earthquakes. Structural engineers, design professionals, building officials, academics and students can improve their seismic design skills and learn about the current Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program (NEHRP) when they attend attend "Earthquake Engineering Techniques: From the NEHRP Provisions to Building Seismic Design.”

This short course organized by the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) and co-sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) will be held Friday, August 16, 2013, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, at the ASCE Bechtel Conference Center in Reston, Va.

BSSC is offering this one-day course to support the 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions for New Buildings and Other Structures, which the council developed for FEMA NEHRP. BSSC is committed to helping design professionals keep current with the changes made in ASCE7-10: Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures and the 2012 International Building Code based on the 2009 NEHRP Provisions.

"Earthquake Engineering Techniques” covers a wide range of topics from the FEMA publications: P-751 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Design Examples; and the accompanying P-752 2009 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions: Training and Instructional Materials. The course includes 7 hours of instruction. Attendees that complete it will receive a certificate that awards 7.0 Professional Development Units (PDUs).
