The Green Sports Alliance is working in partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE), National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to examine the current state of energy and water performance and identify the opportunities and challenges in advancing the design, construction and operation of high-performance facilities. To accomplish this, we are conducting a survey of current practices, barriers, and opportunities that venue operators face in relation to energy and water efficiency. The findings from this survey will help identify opportunities to reduce energy and water use, save money, and lead the way to possibly developing a new ENERGY STAR score and certification for stadiums and arenas.

For over 20 years, consumers have come to rely on ENERGY STAR to designate the most energy efficient consumer products in America. Now stadiums and arenas are working with the EPA to create an ENERGY STAR score that would allow owners to see how well their stadiums/arenas compare against their peers in energy and water use. Those that score high may receive ENERGY STAR certification from the EPA and recognition for outstanding environmental leadership. Before this can happen, our partners need the help of sports venue operators to build an ENERGY STAR rating by providing anonymous energy and water data on stadiums and arenas throughout the US and Canada.

During this webinar, attendees will learn what data will be needed to respond to the survey and how this effort can benefit owners and managers of sports stadiums and arenas. Attendees will also be given an overview of the project that the Green Sports Alliance, DOE, and NIBS currently have underway to examine the state of energy and water performance in stadiums and arenas.
