Honor Award from Chairman
Ronald L. Skaggs, FAIA, FACHA. |
Each year, the National Institute of Building Sciences recognizes individuals and organizations that have made an exceptional contribution to the nation and the building community. This year, the Institute presented its 2009 Honor Award to Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.).
Institute Chairman of the Board Ronald L. Skaggs, FAIA, FACHA, presented the award to Rep. Carnahan in recognition of his visionary leadership and commitment to achieving high-performing buildings.
Rep. Carnahan is co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on High Performance Buildings. In June of 2009, in recognition of the nation’s commitment, he introduced House Resolution 492, declaring the week of June 15-19 as “High Performance Building Week,” to raise awareness about the benefits of high-performance buildings, promote new educational programs supporting research and expand access to information.
A strong advocate of high-performance buildings, Rep. Carnahan hosts monthly briefings for Congressional members and staff on an array of topics to promote understanding of the importance of high-performance buildings.
He is a member of the House Science and Technology Committee, as well as the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he serves on the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Energy Management Subcommittee and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Rep. Carnahan accepted the award during the Institute’s Annual Reception and Banquet, held December 7-10, during the Ecobuild America Conference in Washington, D.C.
