BIM leader to address integrated product delivery, role of IT
in buildingSMART alliance International Conference keynote
Project information management can provide new opportunities for design and construction firms in the evolving landscape of professional services. Dennis R. Shelden, a world leader in the field of building information modeling (BIM), will discuss how members of the construction industry and their clients can benefit by using information technology (IT), such as BIM, to integrate product delivery during his keynote address December 10 at the buildingSMART alliance International Conference in Washington, D.C.
Shelden is the Associate Professor of the Practice in Design and Computation Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Department of Architecture and a founder and Chief Technology Officer of Gehry Technologies, a fully independent company formed in 2002 by the research and development team of Gehry Partners. His presentation, “Comprehensive Approaches to Technology-Driven Project Delivery,” will cover project execution techniques within the larger context of conventional and emerging project delivery models and emphasize the role of IT in integrated project delivery (IPD) and other delivery mechanisms.
“Dr. Shelden’s keynote really puts the focus on how important it is that firms understand the multiple facets of technology, business and innovation because it can affect their bottom line and competitiveness in the future,” said Dana K. "Deke" Smith, FAIA, Executive Director of buildingSMART alliance, the hosting organization of the conference and a council of the National Institute of Building Sciences. “2010 is looking to be a watershed year for building information modeling, and those design, construction and facility management companies that are able to implement it into their business processes will have a huge edge as we emerge from the recession.”
The buildingSMART alliance International Conference, which runs December 8 – 10 at the Washington Convention Center, focuses on achieving facility lifecycle collaboration and sustainability through information technology. The conference is co-located with Ecobuild® America, sponsored by the National Institute of Building Sciences. Shelden’s keynote address, scheduled for Thursday, December 10, from 12:00 pm. to 1:00 pm., is open to all buildingSMART alliance International Conference and Ecobuild America attendees.
