Institute to Hold Independent Conference in 2013

Dear Member of the Institute:

For the past three years, as you may be aware, the National Institute of Building Sciences has been a sponsor of the Ecobuild America Conference. The Institute has presented programs at the conference and held the Institute Annual Meeting and Awards Program in conjunction with the week-long event. This has been an enjoyable and mutually beneficial experience, which has provided opportunities for the Institute to work with other organizations in the delivery of many new and exciting activities to develop innovative solutions for our industry and to improve the built environment. This joint venue afforded the Institute the opportunity to showcase our work and share advancements of the councils and programs under the Institute banner to a wider audience that may have otherwise not been exposed to our activities.

We thank AEC Science & Technology, the producer of Ecobuild America, for the opportunities it has provided the Institute and for our shared successes over the years. However, it is in the best interest of the Institute that we now separate our meetings and provide a new, independent venue for our programs.

In January 2013, the Institute will hold its Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet as part of a new, free-standing event—Building Innovation 2013: The National Institute of Building Sciences Annual Conference and Expo. This conference will include those programs the Institute and its councils previously held during the past several years at Ecobuild America, and continue to provide training and educational offerings, such as the buildingSMART alliance™ Conference, the Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC) Symposium, FEDCon® and the various council and committee meetings, to our members and the building community.

Building Innovation 2013: The National Institute of Building Sciences Annual Conference and Expo is scheduled for January 7-10, 2013, in Washington, D.C. The theme of the conference will be “Improving Resiliency through High Performance.” Additional information will be forthcoming over the next several months. Visit www.nibs.org/conference and sign up for updates. We hope you will plan to join us in what we expect will be a successful and exciting program of events.

As always, we welcome your thoughts and input. Please send your comments and suggestions to nibs@nibs.org.

Sincerely,

Henry L. Green, Hon. AIA
President
